Football Game Preview: Desert Oasis Diamondbacks vs. Bishop Gorman Gaels

The Desert Oasis Diamondbacks will take on the Bishop Gorman Gaels at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Desert Oasis knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past 13 matchups -- so hopefully Bishop Gorman likes a good challenge.

Desert Oasis is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Liberty, who was ranked fifth at the time (Desert Oasis was ranked third). Desert Oasis took down Liberty 41-26 on Wednesday.

Akemi Higa continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 322 yards and six touchdowns while completing 81.8% of her passes, and also rushing for 73 yards on only nine carries. That's the most rushing yards she has posted in her last eight contests. Akiko Higa was in the mix too, providing Desert Oasis with two touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Desert Oasis' defense and their three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Kaaliyah Robinson.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bishop Gorman, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They walked away with a 33-24 win over Arbor View on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Gaels considering their six-point performance the game before.

Desert Oasis pushed their record up to 15-2 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.4 points per game. As for Bishop Gorman, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.

Desert Oasis beat Bishop Gorman 26-18 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Desert Oasis since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
