Basketball Recap: Hobgood Charter Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Emma Rae Cannon and Emma Jane Wall

Hobgood Charter came up into this matchup off a tough 31-point loss last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Ocracoke Dolphins by a score of 56-53 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Raiders have suffered since December 3, 2024.

Hobgood Charter's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Emma Jane Wall, who posted 22 points and four steals, and Emma Rae Cannon, who put up 16 points. Those 16 points gave Cannon a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lilli Braddy, who earned six points and seven rebounds.

Hobgood Charter has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Ocracoke, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Columbia the next time they take the court. Ocracoke will head out to face Columbia at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Hobgood Charter will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
