Baseball Game Preview: Haverling Rams vs. Hornell Red Raiders

Haverling is 2-8 against Hornell since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Rams will welcome the Red Raiders at 4:30 p.m. Haverling is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Haverling earned a 5-1 win over Livonia.

Gage Thomas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.5 strikeouts per game. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.

Thomas wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lukas Wightman, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Hornell was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Wellsville, falling 11-4.

Hornell's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Haverling, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Haverling has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hornell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Haverling skirted past Hornell 9-8 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
