On Saturday, Breese Central faced Mt. Vernon in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Breese Central Cougars put the hurt on the Mt. Vernon Rams with a sharp 61-41 victory. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 20 points or more this season.

Despite the defeat, Mt. Vernon had strong showings from Kamaree Pollard, who posted 15 points in addition to five boards and four steals, and Melaina Zedalis, who put up 16 points. The contest was Pollard's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Arwyn Wilkey, who had six points and five rebounds.

Breese Central's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points per game. As for Mt. Vernon, with the loss, they broke their 11-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-2.

Breese Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 59-43 victory against Civic Memorial on the 8th. As for Mt. Vernon, they will square off against Highland at 6:15 p.m. on January 11th. Mt. Vernon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.7 points per game this season.
