Baseball Game Preview: Loyalton Grizzlies vs. Hayfork Timberjacks

Loyalton is a perfect 10-0 against Hayfork since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Grizzlies will look to defend their home field against the Timberjacks at 2:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Loyalton's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Hayfork has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Loyalton barely beat Portola the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Grizzlies never let the Tigers get on the board and left with an 8-0 win on Monday. Considering the Grizzlies have won five matchups by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Cooper Holland made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Loyalton is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-5 otherwise. Holland was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gus Petterson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryland Martinetti, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Loyalton lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hayfork). Everything went their way against Tulelake on Monday as they made off with an 11-0 victory.

Hayfork's win bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Loyalton, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Loyalton was able to grind out a solid victory over Hayfork in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 5-0. Do the Grizzlies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Timberjacks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
