Football Game Preview: George Ranch Longhorns vs. Katy Tigers + How To Watch

Two dominant backs in Hayden Drinkard and Tremayne Hill are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The George Ranch Longhorns will head out on the road to take on the Katy Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

George Ranch's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They really took it to Alief Hastings for the full four quarters, racking up a 31-0 win. The Longhorns not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since August 28th (when they won 48-7).

Tony Morrison had an outrageously good game as he threw for 228 yards and four touchdowns. Those four passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high.

George Ranch didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Luke Diamond. He has been hot for a while, having also posted five or more total tackles the last nine times he's played.

Meanwhile, Katy came tearing into Thursday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36.6 points), and they left with even more momentum. They breezed past the Rams to the tune of 54-7. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 136th, while the Rams are ranked 629th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

George Ranch better keep an eye on Tony Manuel. He was instrumental in Katy's win, rushing for 90 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries. Manuel got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 61 yards. Katy also got help from Braylon Pettaway, who showed off his sure hands for 83 receiving yards.

Katy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 307 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 290 rushing yards in nine consecutive matchups.

Katy's record now sits at 8-2. As for George Ranch, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Thursday's contest might be decided on the ground. George Ranch has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 187.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Katy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 361 rushing yards.
