Volleyball Recap: Discovery Canyon Falls Despite Big Games from Lexi Haughian and Gabby Huebner

If Discovery Canyon was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Coronado last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Thunder lost 3-0 to the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks on Tuesday. The Thunder haven't had much luck with the Red-Tailed Hawks recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Discovery Canyon was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-15, 25-19.

Discovery Canyon's loss came despite strong showings from Gabby Huebner and Lexi Haughian. Huebner had eight digs and seven assists, while Haughian had ten digs and seven kills. Cami Fisher also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Cheyenne Mountain's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brynn Ressler, who had 15 digs and one assist. Ressler has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more digs the last four times she's played.

Discovery Canyon's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Cheyenne Mountain, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Discovery Canyon will welcome Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Thunder surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they will be playing at home against Air Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
