Football Game Preview: Chaparral Cowboys vs. Durango Trailblazers

The Chaparral Cowboys will head out to square off against the Durango Trailblazers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Durango took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Chaparral, who comes in off a win.

Last Friday, Chaparral made easy work of Desert Pines and carried off a 27-6 victory. The Cowboys might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 20 points or more this season.

Sybol Hardinger had a dynamite game for Chaparral, throwing for 176 yards and four touchdowns. Those four passing touchdowns gave Hardinger a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Asia Washington, who rushed for 113 yards on only 15 carries.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Chaparral's defense and their four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Sekia Taylor and Marasia Underwood, who racked up all four sacks between them. Underwood has become a key player for Chaparral: the team is 6-1 when she posts at least one sack, but 2-3 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Durango was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Arbor View and fell 58-12.

Chaparral is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 7.8 points per game. As for Durango, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

Chaparral came up short against Durango in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 31-19. Can Chaparral avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
