Softball Recap: Rio/Fall River Takes a Loss

After soaring to 14 runs the game before, Rio/Fall River was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They lost 8-1 to the Green Lake/Princeton Tigersharks. The matchup marked Rio/Fall River's lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Addy Birr was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one stolen base.

Birr wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bryella Grossman, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Rio/Fall River and nudges their season record down to 6-3. As for Green Lake/Princeton, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-8.

Coming up, Rio/Fall River will venture away from home to square off against Cambria-Friesland at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hilltoppers' pitching crew has only allowed 1.3 runs per game this season, so Rio/Fall River's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Green Lake/Princeton, they have already played their next game, a 13-2 victory against Pardeeville on the 8th.
