Baseball Recap: Sparta Victorious

Sparta proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 12) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the New Covenant Academy Warriors 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since April 4, 2024.

Ben Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Miller was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Trent Eisman looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sparta is undefeated when Eisman allows one or fewer earned runs, but 1-2 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Conner Robinson was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Phoenix Holt, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases.

Sparta is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for New Covenant Academy, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-5.

Coming up, Sparta will square off against Billings at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for New Covenant Academy, they will welcome Blue Eye at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
