Baseball Recap: Winter Park Snags 15th Win in Last 17 Games

Winter Park had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Hagerty Huskies on Thursday. This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against the Huskies on Wednesday, they had to take a 4-0 defeat.

Ryder Simon tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 7.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jackson Fleming was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Winter Park has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 17 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Hagerty, their loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins and brought them to 26-5-1.

Winter Park will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Huskies: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
