Basketball Recap: Elizabeth Austin Key Part of Team Effort in Cougars Win + How To Watch

Apex was handed a 29-point loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 46-44 victory over the Cary Imps. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 33-22 win the Imps walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.

Apex got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Elizabeth Austin out in front who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 18 boards. Those 18 points gave Austin a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella DeGrow, who posted five points in addition to eight rebounds and seven blocks.

Jenna Hayes and Riley Garner certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Hayes went 7-for-14 en route to 18 points and three steals, while Garner scored eight points and five assists. Garner is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Cheyenne Stroud, who put up six points and three steals.

The win got Apex back to even at 1-1. As for Cary, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Apex didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 63-24 victory against Middle Creek on the 24th. As for Cary, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 63-48 loss against Athens Drive on the 21st.
