Softball Recap: Cascade Extends Winning Streak to 17

Cascade put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past the Sweet Home Huskies 11-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-6 two weeks ago.

Taylor Bays made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs she has posted over her last ten matchups.

In other batting news, Malia Scanlan was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Pearl Pruett was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Cascade kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 14 consecutive games.

Cascade pushed their record up to 17-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sweet Home, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-6.

Cascade and Sweet Home should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Oregon Rankings. The Cougars will face off against Philomath at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (8 vs. 91). Meanwhile, Sweet Home (ranked 50th) will meet Newport (ranked 144th) at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
