Flag Football Recap: Channel Islands Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Channel Islands, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 45-21 margin over the Hueneme Vikings on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won six in a row.

Alyssa Olmos continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 218 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 34 yards and a pair of TDs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Another player making a difference was Ashley Smart, who picked up 101 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Another reason for the win was Channel Islands' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Giselle Salcedo and Gizelle Arias, who racked up all five sacks between them. Nevalet Ceja got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Roxanna Silva and Jackie Uribe certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Silva threw for 183 yards and two TDs while completing 74.2% of her passes, while Uribe picked up 87 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Channel Islands' win bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Hueneme, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-13.

Channel Islands wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 21-6 victory against Highland on the 4th. As for Hueneme, they have also already played their next game, a 0-0 win against Canyon on the 4th.
