Basketball Game Preview: East Central Trojans vs. Hammond Central Wolves

The East Central Trojans will take on the Hammond Central Wolves at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Hammond Central will be up against a hot East Central team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Trojans claimed a resounding 55-27 victory over Columbus East. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Trojans had established a 23-point advantage.

East Central found their leader in freshman Lilly Maple, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Maple has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Teagan Leihgeber, who posted six points along with nine rebounds and seven steals.

East Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hammond Central). They walked away with a 58-45 win over East Chicago Central on Thursday. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Hammond Central's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for East Central, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.
