Basketball Game Preview: Stanton Buffaloes vs. Denver City Mustangs

Stanton hasn't had much luck against Denver City recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Stanton Buffaloes will look to defend their home court against the Denver City Mustangs at 7:30 p.m.

Stanton is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game on Tuesday. They were beaten by Brownfield 107-35. While losing is never fun, the Buffaloes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1364th, while the Cubs are ranked 271st).

Meanwhile, Denver City entered their tilt with Crane on Tuesday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They took their match with ease, bagging a 67-37 victory over the Cranes. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 21 points or more this season.

Denver City is also on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.9 points per game. As for Stanton, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.

Stanton might still be hurting after the 57-32 loss they got from Denver City when the teams last played back in November of 2023. Can Stanton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
