Basketball Recap: Fallston Comes Up Short

Fallston entered their contest against Urbana on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Fallston Cougars received a blow as they fell 53-38 to the Urbana Hawks. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Fallston still got an impressive performance from Natalie Wirth, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards. Wirth is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 19 games she's played dating back to last season. Maura Lawall was another key player, putting up nine points along with six rebounds and six steals.

Even though they lost, Fallston smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in 42 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Leading Urbana to victory were Tobi Adebambo and Kiersten Smith. Adebambo dropped a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards, while Smith went 5-for-7 to rack up 12 points. The dominant performance also gave Smith a new career-high in shooting accuracy (71%). Another player making a difference was Zizi Etolue, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Fallston's loss dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Urbana, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.

Fallston wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 51-42 defeat against Greater Grace Christian Academy on the 13th. As for Urbana, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-52 loss against Walkersville on the 14th.
