Volleyball Game Preview: Sandy Creek Cougars vs. Giltner Hornets

The Sandy Creek Cougars will challenge the Giltner Hornets on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Sandy Creek is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Thayer Central just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 3-0 to the Titans. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cougars have suffered since October 28, 2024.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-11, 25-18.

Despite the loss, Sandy Creek saw an underclassman step up: freshman Emersyn Pohlmeier had 13 digs. Pohlmeier has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more digs the last three times she's played.

Meanwhile, Giltner didn't have quite enough to beat Elba on Tuesday and fell 2-1. While the Hornets didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bluejays 25-10 in the first set.

Giltner actually scored more points across those three sets (65-60), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The final score came out to 10-25, 25-19, 25-21.

Giltner's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Sandy Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.
