Softball Recap: Apex Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Apex dropped their record down to 11-8 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They fell 9-5 to the Apex Friendship Patriots. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-1 last Thursday.

Lauren McMahon was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Leah Kendall was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

As for Apex Friendship, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

On Apex Friendship's side, Cheyenne Christman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Christman has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one double.

In other batting news, Hannah Parker and Riley Weaver did most of the damage at the plate: Parker went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI, while Weaver went 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI Weaver has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was India Matute, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Apex will face off against rival Holly Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Apex Friendship is set to square off against their familiar foe Green Level at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
