Basketball Recap: KJ Cannon Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Velma Jackson

There's no place like home for McLaurin, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They walked away with a 57-45 win over the Velma Jackson Falcons on Friday. That's more bragging rights for the Tigers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

McLaurin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but KJ Cannon led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Cannon is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaac Davidson, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards.

McLaurin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

The victory got McLaurin back to even at 8-8. As for Velma Jackson, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. McLaurin will wrap up 2025 with a road trip to face off against Morton at 9:00 a.m. on the 29th. As for Velma Jackson, they will venture away from home to take on Scott Central at 1:30 p.m. on Monday.
