Baseball Game Preview: Mason Comets vs. Sycamore Aviators

Mason has gone a perfect 10-0 against Sycamore recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Comets will face off against the Aviators at 5:00 p.m. Mason will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Mason and Sycamore, and Mason kept the tradition alive. The Comets put the hurt on the Aviators with a sharp 11-1 win on Wednesday. The Comets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Mason got a great performance from Ben Hanley as he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Hanley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Hutch Crociata and Sam Davies did most of the damage at the plate: Crociata went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Davies went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two runs gave Crociata a new career-high. Brant Fisher also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Mason hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive contests.

Mason pushed their record up to 17-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Sycamore, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.
