Basketball Recap: Cairo Comes Up Short

Cairo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 29th straight defeat dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 70-27 loss at the hands of the Monroe Golden Tornadoes. While losing is never fun, the Syrupmakers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 468th, while the Golden Tornadoes are ranked 82nd).

Cairo's loss came despite strong showings from Shaquara Mills and Danyel Sparrow. Mills posted four points and ten boards, while Sparrow had seven points. Mills has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last three times she's played.

It was another big night for Kie'Aundria Acree, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 16 boards for Monroe. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Acree has scored at least a third of Monroe's points. Taylor Mckinzy was another key player, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds.

Cairo's loss dropped their record down to 0-15. As for Monroe, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 19-5.

Cairo has already played their next match, a 50-24 defeat against Westover on the 4th. As for Monroe, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-28 victory against Peach County on the 4th.
