West Rowan is a perfect 10-0 against South Rowan since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. West Rowan will be playing in front of their home fans against South Rowan at 5:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (West Rowan 3.2, South Rowan 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
While West Rowan's win against South Iredell wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. West Rowan's pitcher stepped up to hand South Iredell a 2-0 shutout on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Falcons have posted against the Vikings since April 17, 2018.
Not much got past Arabelle Shulenburger, who gave up just three hits and racked up ten Ks to keep South Iredell off the board. Shulenburger has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Raney Phelps, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, South Rowan came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 12-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won four matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.
Eva Shue was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Danica Krieg, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
South Rowan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
West Rowan pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.8 runs this season. As for South Rowan, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. West Rowan hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.3 home runs per game. However, it's not like South Rowan struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
West Rowan came out on top in a nail-biter against South Rowan in their previous meeting back in February, sneaking past 8-7. Does West Rowan have another victory up their sleeve, or will South Rowan turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
