Softball Game Preview: Assumption Rockets vs. Eastern Eagles

The Assumption Rockets will face off against the Eastern Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Assumption is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

Assumption is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kentucky's top teams: DuPont Manual, who was ranked 24th at the time (Assumption was ranked tenth). Neither the Rockets nor the Crimsons could gain the upper hand on Tuesday so the two teams had to settle for a 5-5 tie.

Meanwhile, Eastern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Male. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by just one run.

Edie Kretzer made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Assumption's tie gives them a new season record of 16-9-1. As for Eastern, their loss dropped their record down to 24-10.

Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Assumption has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. However, it's not like Eastern struggles in that department as they've averaged .459. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Assumption beat Eastern 9-6 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Do the Rockets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
