Softball Recap: Friday's Win Is Houston's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Houston proved they can win big on Monday (they won by seven) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Fort Loramie Redskins 4-3. This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against the Redskins last Thursday, they had to take a 5-4 loss.

Makenna Vondenhuevel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Houston's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lauryn Crim, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Olivia Maier also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Houston is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Fort Loramie, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Houston will face off against rival Jackson Center at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Fort Loramie is set to take on their familiar foe Fairlawn at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
