Soccer Game Preview: Garner vs. Athens Drive

Garner hasn't had much luck against Athens Drive recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Garner Trojans will venture away from home to take on the Athens Drive Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Garner is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Riverside-Durham on Thursday. Garner fell just short of Riverside-Durham by a score of 1-0. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Athens Drive fell victim to Middle Creek and their airtight defense on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 1-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Jaguars in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost four in a row.

Garner's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Athens Drive, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Garner suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Athens Drive when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Garner avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
