Baseball Recap: Cranford Victorious

While Cranford's victory against New Providence wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Pioneers 3-1. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Pioneers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Jackson Schoening spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits.

At the plate, John Fiore was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Fry, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Cranford's victory bumped their record up to 11-9. As for New Providence, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-16.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cranford will square off against Watchung Hills Regional at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for New Providence, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on June 6.
