Baseball Recap: Magdalena Wins Going Away Against Oak Grove Classical Academy

14 must be Magdalena's lucky number: they beat Oak Grove Classical Academy with that score not once but twice on Wednesday. The Steers put the hurt on the Owls with a sharp 14-4 victory. The Steers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by six runs or more this season.

Josiah Candelaria made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Joseph Zamora and Ayden Herschbach did most of the damage at the plate: Zamora scored three runs while going 3-for-4, while Herschbach scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. What's more, Herschbach posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Mathew Lopez was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run and two runs.

Magdalena always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Magdalena and bumps their season record up to 5-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Oak Grove Classical Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.
