Seth Hernandez of Corona is Player of the Year; Andy Rojo of St. John Bosco is Coach of the Year.
The first high school player from the state chosen in the Major League
Baseball Draft and the coach whose team finished as the top-ranked
California team in the MaxPreps Top 25 national rankings highlight our
annual California all-state baseball team.
Seth Hernandez of
Corona was
the third high school player chosen in the recent draft and the first
from California when he was picked No. 6 overall by the Pirates.
Hernandez was the first prep pitcher chosen ranked
as the No. 1 pitcher in the nation all-season long by Perfect Game. He
has been named the MaxPreps California Player of the Year.
Andy Rojo of
St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.)
led the Braves to a Southern Section Division 1 championship and a
Southern California Division 1 while finishing ranked No. 3 in the
nation in the Top 25. Rojo is the state Coach of the Year and he was
also tabbed as the MaxPreps National Coach of the Year earlier this
month.
The all-state team includes 60 total players on two
30-member teams. The players were chosen based on team success, all-area
honors and season statistics.
