Baseball Recap: Fairfield Prep Comes Up Short

Fairfield Prep managed to slip by Shelton the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Jesuits came up short against the Gaels on Friday, falling 10-3. The Jesuits' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Ryan Ventrelle was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Vinny Lombardo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. JJ Schachinger was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Fairfield Prep's loss dropped their record down to 15-9. As for Shelton, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fairfield Prep will welcome Hillhouse at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Shelton, they will face off against Wilbur Cross at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
