Basketball Game Recap: Wayne County Cardinals vs. Southwestern Warriors

The Wayne County Cardinals can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They snuck past Southwestern with a 57-53 win. The win was all the more spectacular given Wayne County's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Warriors are ranked 26th).

Despite the loss, Southwestern still got an impressive performance from Payton Acey, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 19 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Megan Loudermilk, who scored 13 points.

Wayne County's victory bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Southwestern, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wayne County won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Lincoln County is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Southwestern, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Maroons at 6:00 p.m.
