Softball Recap: Crete's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Crete came tearing into Saturday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays. That's more bragging rights for the Cardinals, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Madynn Dunham was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

In other batting news, Kacey Dunaway was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hayley Mattox, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

Crete lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Crete's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Ashland-Greenwood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.

Crete will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Wahoo at 11:00 a.m. As for Ashland-Greenwood, they will square off against Waverly at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bluejays' pitcher better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
