4A Region III District 17 recap October 29, 2013
Elgin extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region III District 17 this week by beating East View, 70-7. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Wildcats.
Elgin took down East View 70-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Da'Trean Simmons ran for 287 yards and caught 1 pass for 22 yards during the win.
Ben Bottlinger threw for 227 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Simmons was a beast in the backfield as Wade Griffin's team bested East View.
Simmons was a passing and rushing force as the Wildcats bested East View. Simmons' key target this week was Colin Snell, who caught 3 passes for 54 yards.
Devin Tuggle was the best wideout in the league this week as Cedar Creek lost to Manor. Tuggle tallied 3 receptions for 94 yards. Will Byrd helped Cedar Creek's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 58 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Georgetown's Bottlinger and Camden Lepley have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-1 quarterback Bottlinger has thrown for 1,440 yards this season, while Lepley has 49 catches for 502 yards. Simmons from Elgin leads the league in rushing with 1,304 yards.
Te'Rel Simmons of the the Wildcats is only 33 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Simmons has rushed for 967 yards on 120 carries so far this year.
The Bears are in sixth place, while Elgin is in first place.
Bastrop made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,069 from 4,185. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 33-14 victory over Pflugerville Connally last week.
