Fernley is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will challenge the Dayton Dust Devils at 3:00 p.m. Fernley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

Fernley fell victim to Needles and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They came up short against the Mustangs, falling 7-0. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Vaqueros were not able to get on the board.

Fernley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley McCullar, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. McCullar is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Meanwhile, Dayton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pahrump Valley.

Duke Evans and Brody Dupuy stepped up to the plate in a big way. Evans went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run, while Dupuy went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jordan Kennedy, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Having lost for the first time this season, Fernley fell to 4-1. As for Dayton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Everything went Fernley's way against Dayton in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, as Fernley made off with a 10-3 win. Do the Vaqueros have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dust Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
