Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Vontrez Quainton and Jordan Gaines Lead Northside to Victory

Northside proved they can win big last Monday (they won by 21) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets, sneaking past 64-61. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 70-32 win the Yellow Jackets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Northside was led to victory by Jordan Gaines and Vontrez Quainton. Gaines went 9 of 16 on his way to 23 points and six boards, while Quainton posted 16 points in addition to five assists and three steals. The dominant performance gave Quainton a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Meki Spencer, who had six points and five assists.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Northside was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Thomas County Central only racked up eight assists.

Thomas County Central's loss came despite strong showings from Eric Love, III and Quincy Anderson. Love, III went 9 of 16 on his way to 22 points and six boards, while Anderson went 5 of 11 on his way to 15 points and five boards. Love, III's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Dunbar Iv, who put up nine points and seven rebounds.

Northside has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for Thomas County Central, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-4.

Northside wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 70-51 loss against Houston County on the 4th. As for Thomas County Central, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-58 victory against Coffee on the 4th.
