Basketball Recap: Cristian Acevedo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Apollo over West Point

Apollo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 61-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Point Dragons.

Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cristian Acevedo, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Izaiah Rawlings, who posted 13 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Point to victory, but perhaps none more so than Samuel Kalikilwa, who went 7 of 12 en route to 16 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Dewey Henry was another key player, going 7 for 13 on his way to 18 points and four steals.

Apollo's loss dropped their record down to 8-10. As for West Point, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 13-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Apollo will face off against Tolleson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant against one another: Rico Blassingame and Isaiah White. As for West Point, they will take on Valley Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in West Point's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
