Volleyball Recap: Downey Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Rylan Sanchez and Diego Burgos

Downey's tournament run continued when they took on Stone Ridge Christian on Saturday. Downey fell just short of Stone Ridge Christian by a score of 2-1.

Downey's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Diego Burgos, who had nine kills and eight digs, and Rylan Sanchez, who had 16 assists and five kills. Sanchez is on a roll when it comes to kills, as he's now had five or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Miguel Garcia Gonzalez, who had nine digs and one assist.

Downey's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Stone Ridge Christian, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Downey will challenge Turlock at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Stone Ridge Christian, they will head out to square off against Gustine at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Stone Ridge Christian is facing Gustine at the right time seeing as Gustine is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
