Softball Recap: Hardin Northern Beats Riverdale for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Hardin Northern came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Riverdale Falcons. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-4 back in March.

Lyla Holtzberger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Addy Bacon was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Karli Fath was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Hardin Northern pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Riverdale, they moved to 4-2 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hardin Northern will welcome Jackson Center at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Riverdale, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Seneca East at 5:00 p.m. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.75 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of.
