Baseball Recap: Veritas Christian Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

On Thursday Veritas Christian's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the St. Mary's Academy Crusaders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted against the Crusaders since March 24, 2015.

Lincoln Baum made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on James Lee, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Abel Ney was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Veritas Christian pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for St. Mary's Academy, they moved to 6-2 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, St. Mary's Academy will square off against Jefferson County North at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Crusaders are facing the Chargers at the right time seeing as the Chargers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. Veritas Christian will be paying especially close attention to St. Mary's Academy's contest: after St. Mary's Academy faces off against Centralia, they'll take on Veritas Christian again at 4:30 p.m. on the 11th.
