Softball Recap: Kearney Catholic Stars vs. South Sioux City Cardinals
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Scottsbluff, Kearney Catholic was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 16-1 margin over the South Sioux City Cardinals. The result was nothing new for the Stars, who have now won five games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Raegan Ruyle was incredible, going 4-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and a triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in August of 2023. Kynlee Ruyle was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Kearney Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Sioux City only posted an OBP of .429.
Kearney Catholic's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for South Sioux City, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.
Kearney Catholic will square off against Northwest on Monday. Northwest will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something Kearney Catholic surely won't give up without a fight. As for South Sioux City, they will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Highway 91. South Sioux City has given up an average of 10.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
