Baseball Recap: Alex Werden Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Trenton Central

Hightstown barely beat Trenton Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rams never let the Tornadoes get on the board and left with a 16-0 win on Thursday. With that victory, the Rams brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

Dominick Terranova tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Alex Werden was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Anthony Benitez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Hightstown's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Trenton Central, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hightstown will venture away from home to challenge Allentown at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Trenton Central, they will head out to face off against Lawrence at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Tornadoes surely won't give up without a fight.
