Basketball Recap: River City Believers Academy Takes a Loss

River City Believers Academy lost against First Baptist Academy back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The River City Believers Academy Soldiers took a hard 46-30 fall against the First Baptist Academy Eagles. The Soldiers' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Loss or not, River City Believers Academy got some senior leadership from Lukas Cox and Brennen McGuire. Cox dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds, while McGuire dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards. Cox is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 19 games he's played dating back to last season.

Even though they lost, River City Believers Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Timothy De La Rosa continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for First Baptist Academy, going 7 of 15 on his way to 18 points in addition to six steals and five boards. With that strong performance, De La Rosa is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Xaidyn McKennon, who posted ten points along with six rebounds and four steals.

River City Believers Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for First Baptist Academy, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.

River City Believers Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Austin Classical at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for First Baptist Academy, they will welcome Gloria Deo Academy at 3:30 p.m. on December 28th. First Baptist Academy is facing Gloria Deo Academy at the right time seeing as Gloria Deo Academy is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
