Baseball Game Preview: Monterey Dores vs. Soledad Aztecs

The Monterey Dores will head out on the road to square off against the Soledad Aztecs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Monterey will be strutting in after a victory while Soledad will be coming in after a loss.

Monterey took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Palma, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Dores won by a run and slipped past the Chieftains 12-11. Surprisingly, this marked the Dores' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Johnny Money made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

Money wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Rose, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs and three RBI. That's the most RBI Rose has posted since back in May of 2024. Aiden Velarde also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Soledad was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Liberty, falling 11-3.

Soledad's defeat dropped their record down to 8-16. As for Monterey, their record is now 9-15.

Monterey skirted past Soledad 3-1 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dores since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
