Basketball Recap: Gillion Academy National's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Gillion Academy National came tearing into Thursday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.8 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Hamilton Heights Christian Academy Hawks by a score of 73-65.

Gillion Academy National's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Marcis Ponder, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 17 rebounds. Ponder is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Willie Burnett III was another key player, putting up 20 points.

Gillion Academy National smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Hamilton Heights Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Bj Bradford, who went 8-for-16 on his way to 20 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Paul Sama also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.
