Baseball Recap: Phoenix Pirates vs. Henley Hornets

Phoenix extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 3-7 in the process. They took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Henley Hornets. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, with their most recent loss being a 4-2 defeat on Saturday.

As for Henley, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-2-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

For Henley's part, Mark Carpenter made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Carpenter has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Conner Shively was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ryan Douglas, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
