Softball Preview: Hammond Skyhawks vs. Cardinal Newman Cardinals

The Hammond Skyhawks will be playing at home against the Cardinal Newman Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Beacham has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive pitching appearances. Beacham was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Madge Miller was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sadie Meacham, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Even though they lost, Hammond didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with ten strikeouts. That's the most strikeouts they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman was not able to break out of their rough patch back in March as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 16-0 walloping at the hands of Augusta Christian.

Hammond's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-2. As for Cardinal Newman, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
