Dawson School is a perfect 6-0 against Rocky Mountain Lutheran since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mustangs will venture away from home to face off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Dawson School has given up an average of 7.4 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Thursday, Dawson School came up short against Bishop Machebeuf and fell 11-8.
Milo Richtel led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. Graham Bernstein also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Rocky Mountain Lutheran duked it out with Front Range Baptist on Tuesday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Falcons. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for the Eagles this season.
Gavin Borchardt made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Borchardt was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He has become a key player for Rocky Mountain Lutheran: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, Noah Lile was a standout: he scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Judah Sternhagen, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Rocky Mountain Lutheran always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Rocky Mountain Lutheran's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-3. As for Dawson School, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-5.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dawson School has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .457. However, it's not like Rocky Mountain Lutheran struggles in that department as they've averaged .460. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
