Basketball Game Preview: Spencer Greenwave vs. Therrell Panthers

The Spencer Greenwave will square off against the Therrell Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Spencer came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Carver, falling 71-50. The Greenwave haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Meanwhile, Therrell came up short against KIPP Atlanta Collegiate on Saturday and fell 80-71. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while the Warriors are ranked 72nd).

Spencer will have to contain Gordon Davis as he made an impact in Therrell's last game. He went 12-for-15 to rack up 34 points and seven rebounds. Davis' afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Morion Mcwhorter was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to seven boards and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Therrell was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Therrell has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-16 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.2 points over those games. As for Spencer, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-7.
