Softball Recap: Chester Comes Up Short

Chester dropped their record down to 10-9 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Broaddus Bulldogs by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Yellowjackets have suffered since February 27th.

Chester got a good showing from Sadie Garsee, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Lauren Cintrano was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Lily Read, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

As for Broaddus, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-6-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 23, 2024.

On Broaddus' side, Laila Holloway made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). With that strong performance, Holloway is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Holloway wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ava Turcios, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Broaddus beat Chester by a score of 8-6 later that day.
