Preview: Heritage Christian Patriots vs. Messmer Bishops
Heritage Christian and Messmer are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Heritage Christian Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Messmer Bishops at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Heritage Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
In what's become a running theme this season, Heritage Christian gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 76-40 victory over St. John's Northwestern Military Academy. Given Heritage Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while St. John's Northwestern Military Academy is ranked 383rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Desmond Jones was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Mike Bowen Jr. was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Messmer pushed their score all the way to 75 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 83-75 to University School of Milwaukee.
Heritage Christian pushed their record up to 16-4 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 86.0 points per game. As for Messmer, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.
Everything came up roses for Heritage Christian against Messmer when the teams last played on Saturday as the team secured a 106-62 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Heritage Christian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
